Question: I have a self hosted Wordpress blog that I host on GoDaddy. I am trying to import the blog onto a different domain on a BlueHost java projects hosting platform. So, I created the export file, but when I went to import it, it is too big. How can I import a xml file that is too big? There is over 900 posts/pages and 5 years worth of content. ~Chris Brown
Platform: WordPress.org
Answer: I can suggest two things:
1 - to make the export smaller, get rid of the post revisions, spam comments, unused post tags, unused post meta and unused MySQL data, which all take up a great deal of space.
The easiest way to do this is to install a plugin best url shortener 2015 called WP-Cleanup. It will all you to clean out all the information that you don't need that's bloating your export.
Once WP-Cleanup does it's thing, perform the export again and try to import to the new blog. There's a possibility that your export will still be too airline reservation system project big because of the years of information you've amassed.
If so, try this:
A new website will be the access point for people around the globe to research their family history as far back as the 1740s. Access to the site is complimentary.
"This is a fascinating and personal issue for so many people around the world. It represents a connection not just across the world, but across the ages," Taoiseach Enda Kenny said at the launch of the service in Dublin on Wednesday.
2 - break up the export by only including one year of information in each exported file. WordPress gives you the option to do this prior to creating the export. Then import each year one at a time to rebuild your entire site. If there are any duplicates, the importer will ignore them, and you'll see "already exists" in the log file that is generated.
Question: Before the WP upgrade, I could create a "fake" hyperlink where, when you'd hover over the link, the "title" I put in that link with no URL would appear - like snarky words, explanations, etc. Now with the upgrade, it won't let me do that. Suggestions? ~Candy
Platform: WordPress.org
Answer: I did a "View Source" on one of your posts to see how you previously created your "fake" hyperlinks. I saw that you were simply not including anything behind the "http://." Now that the new pop-up box doesn't automatically include the "http://," I see why this has caused an issue for you.
Actually, a very common way to create a cheapssl dummy link is with a hashtag/pound symbol (#).
In the link field, simply type in the hashtag/pound symbol, fill in your title with your "snarky words, explanations, etc.," and click OK. When your user hovers, he/she will see what's included in the title tag.
Using the hashtag/pound symbol vb project won't affect what you type into the title portion. It's just a placeholder to activate the linking functionality.
Here's a link to a video (no audio, apologies) of the above steps.
